Kent wicketkeeper Geraint Jones is hoping the side finish the season on a high and that means gaining promotion at Glamorgan.

Last week’s 222 run victory over Derbyshire at Canterbury has given Kent a fighting chance of making it back to the First Division of the County Championship with their last game of the season down in Cardiff beginning on Tuesday morning.

Victory for Rob Key’s side may not be enough though as they will need to better both Derbyshire or Yorkshire’s result to stand  a chance of making it into the top two.

With that in mind, Jones is hoping the side give it absolutely everything they have in the four remaining days of cricket left  this season:

“We will go into the match giving it our all to win and if we do that, we’ll have a good chance. That’s our mindset and that’s  what we will be hoping to do.”

“Robert Croft ends his career there and it’s rather fitting that he finishes at home. They may look to give him a turning  wicket, but that will suit us with Treddy.”

“Whatever surface we get, we’ll be prepared and we’ll make sure we don’t leave anything left in the tank.”

“All that matters is where you finish come the end of the season. We’ve given it our all throughout the season and there are  some tired bodies around, but we will lift ourselves for one final effort.”

Last week Jones celebrated his 100th consecutive County Championship game and he told KSN how he was pleased to have put in  such a convincing performance with both the bat and the gloves:

“It was a long tough last day. We knew we would be in for that and to be fair to Derbyshire, they fought right to the end  taking it into the last hour.”

“It was a nice personal moment in my 100th consecutive County Championship game to win it with that style of catch.”

“It was good to get a first innings lead from where we were and I’ve been batting well recently. I took my opportunity as I  was dropped before I had scored. Getting the tail up to 261 was pleasing for me personally, but the innings from Sam Northeast  in the second innings gave us the opportunity to bowl at them in the way that we did.”

“Everyone chipped in throughout the game, but that’s the way it has been all season to be fair.”

One bit of controversy that came out of the game was the inclusion of spinner James Tredwell two days into the game replacing  Adam Riley after being given permission to play by the ECB, but Jones felt it was a storm in a tea cup:

“That was a load of nonsense in my opinion. If the opposition want to get their knickers in a twist about that, that’s up to them, but the reason you play cricket is because you want to test yourself against the best.”

“He’s an international player and had been playing international cricket. For me, I’d be wanting to test myself against James  Tredwell.”
